The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) was passed by congress nearly 10 years ago. Its intent so to protect the integrity of the nation's drug supply chain. Until now, most of the work has been thrust upon manufacturers and distributors. But, that is changing and retail pharmacies are being required to adopt new processes to insure, document and report on the products they buy and sell.
Leon Nevers, Director of Procurement and Business Development for one of the nation's most prominent grocery/pharmacy chains says the regulation's rules for pharmacies are scheduled to be enforced in Nov. 2023. Nevers shares examples of the kinds of things every pharmacy will need to know, and do, by that date. He also warns that if you are going to make it you'll need to get started now.

Mickey Fine Pharmacy is an institution in Beverley Hills. Jeff Gross, CPT is the owner and says despite having a fair number of Hollywood elites as customers that you’d be surprised how many “regular” people live in the area and use the pharmacy. Just like every other pharmacy Gross suffers from low reimbursement which has led him to develop a keen focus on immunizations. COVID has allowed him to do this in a big way as at the time this episode was recorded they had used nearly 10,000 doses. One area of focus for Mickey Fine has been pediatric immunizations.
